This wedding was a first in many respects. Most notably, it’s the first same-sex marriage I’ve had the privilege to shoot! I was very excited to hear from Amy… only to realize we have quite a number of mutual friends (6 degrees of separation, anyone?) and apparently we had met many, many years ago very briefly through one of our mutual friends. What a small world
This rather non-traditional wedding had a lot of traditional elements to it. For starters, our groom, Ronnie, had to play traditional Chinese door games in order to be worthy of the bride! Some of these door games were just plain nasty - like brushing teeth with wasabi?! Poor Ronnie… but she did it all for Amy!

The second game was easier on the tastebuds… but still pretty difficult - pass the nori (seaweed) between Ronnie and the best man, Paul, 3 times via lips. Not as easy as it sounds!

Finally - Ronnie is ‘worthy’ of seeing Amy! And what a STUNNING dress she had… Amy made the entire skirt herself!

Just before we set out, there was a traditional tea ceremony.

We did the photo shoot before the ceremony with SAIT as our first stop.

We snuck into an abandoned stage area - what a perfect place for this couple

The ceremony was at the Inglewood Golf and Country Club during a very beautiful and sunny day~

The ceremony had a cute Asian theme, with the tables labeled after Japanese cities.

The “cake” (cupcakes in this case) topper were these custom Pinky dolls - so cute!!

This was also the first time the groom’s speech had left not one single dry eye in the audience. Ronnie spoke of her hardships growing up as a tomboy and how thankful she is to her parents for being so incredibly accepting.

What an amazing experience. Amy and Ronnie share a most unique and very personal love that is very obvious to see within the first few moments of meeting them. They care about each other deeply and the personal struggles they’ve had to overcome to finally be together are hard to imagine, but well worth it. I really want to thank them for letting me be such a special part of their day
