It’s “Mee-hal-ska“. In Polish, the “ch” is just an “h” sound.
Born in Warsaw, Poland, my parents (along with my sister) immigrated to Calgary, Alberta when I was 6 years old. I’ve been living here ever since.
Did I always know I wanted to be a photographer? No. At least not professionally, and I’ve found this to be a major trait in the way the most important things have worked out in my life – starting from an idle interest and building itself into something massive over the years until I realize, “hey, I’ve got something really good here.” My dad gave me a film camera for one of my birthdays as a teenager after he saw my interest in video and photography. I also grew an interest for illustration, which lead me to graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. During my college years, I met the eventual love of my life and through him, I also started working for the wedding industry as a videographer. That’s when I felt I really found something interesting, something I felt I belonged to.
On September 7, 2007, the day before my birthday and after months of planning and preparation, I gave myself the birthday gift of opening my own business – Anna Michalska Photography was born. The rest is history (and conveniently all blogged here for everyone to see!)
I’m a photographer, but until recently (December 13, 2009!!!) I was also a bride. What I see here is what I would want to see from my own photographer at my own wedding. I hope this is how you feel about me, and I hope we can work together because I love meeting new people. I’m open, friendly, and smile probably more than I should – which I’ve never thought of as a bad thing. Life is short, live with no regrets, and be happy. This is all I could wish for anyone.

Equipment
Equipment wise, I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark II as my main camera with a Canon 5D as a backup, doubled with Canon’s superior L-glass lens series. My other loot includes numerous tripods, exterior flash units and light reflecting umbrellas. Occasionally, I manage to convince my lovely assistant (my husband) to come along. ;)
