I met Courtenay and James purely by chance through a mutual friend, Clarice. Clarice no longer lives in Calgary but whenever she comes back for a visit, she arranges a get together for all of her close friends – those of which include Courtenay and James. Nearly a year ago, Clarice was back for another visit and during the mutual friend gathering, she introduced me to Courtenay and James, informing me that they are getting married next year. Turns out I’ve actually gone to school with James (which makes sense, most of our mutual friends are through high school) and we got to talking about their plans for their big day. It was great to meet new people and I went home happy after chatting with this pleasant couple. The best part is that when I checked my email that night, there was an email sitting in my inbox from Courtenay, saying she had just looked through my online portfolio and would love to have me as her wedding photographer. Wow! I was totally floored. Courtenay and James had originally planned to have their wedding at the Zoo – but as most of us already know, the horrible floods left a devastating amount of damage at the Zoo and unfortunately we were out of a venue for the wedding. Courtenay, being an extremely organized bride, hit the books right away to find a replacement venue and we were lucky enough to have Heritage Park open for their date. And, honestly, a Heritage Park wedding is one of my favorite things. You just cannot go wrong at this venue. So spacious, so well kept, so many fun buildings and a wonderful view of the lake and mountains. Rescheduling everything to Heritage Park meant moving and changing times, so we opted to do a First Look for the couple before the ceremony. Needless to say, James was pretty stunned to see his lovely bride when he turned around to face her. :) This bridal party was TONS of geeky fun. I learned that Courtenay is a huge Sailor Moon fan, so we are basically best friends now. :D The awesome couple has now moved to the States, but I hope to see them again someday at yet another one of Clarice’s awesome friend gatherings!! Big thanks to Crystal of Sujata Photography for the help on the day of!
