Lisa and Kelley celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary last year! Lisa contacted me last year in hopes of getting some updated photos of the two of them – honestly, what a beautiful gift to each other for a wedding anniversary. Lisa and Kelley met when they were still youngin’s, 17- and 20-years-old respectively, and were friends for many months before they decided to test the dating waters of their relationship. Lisa says that they are both a bit nerdy (Kelley moreso, she claims), and their personalities worked so well together – she describes their dating life as “very easy and fun”. She told me there wasn’t a single moment that they both knew that each other was “the one”, but more of a steady build up over time where they knew they were meant to be together. I asked them for advice on how they’ve learned to settle arguments, and Lisa says the key is open communication, talking about everything and anything – in case of any argument, just talk it out. A big piece of advice that Lisa offers for maintaining a healthy marriage is to maintain and nurture your friendship together, by doing thing together fairly frequently. Lisa and Kelley enjoy activities together such as hiking, date nights, skiing, and traveling. “It’s important to keep up the fun in life” – sound advice! Finally, I asked Lisa what are some of the things that each of you do to keep the romance alive in their day-to-day lives, and she replied, “Obviously we aren’t perfect and have ebbs and flows like any relationship, but we are pretty blessed. In our house it’s the little things that keeps the spark alive. If I come home after a long day and see that Kelley has cleaned or cooked it means the world and vice versa. We both work demanding jobs and it’s those little gestures that show each of us that we care.”
Thank you, Lisa and Kelley, for sharing your time and your wisdom! Here’s to another amazing 10+ years!!
