Shaunna and Jeremy approached me for their engagement session plans while planning their wedding for this winter in California (awesome!). I can confidently say that Shaunna and Jeremy are two most excellent and genuine people, going so far as to get me a super beautiful Sailor Moon print from Comic Expo this year as a thank you gift. Oh. My. God. Now these are my people!!! <3
We planned their Calgary downtown engagement photos by popping into DeVille, walking along the streets of Stephen Ave and near Art Central, visiting the Peace Bridge, and finishing off with a beautiful sunset view of our lovely downtown.
Where did you two meet?
Shaunna: “We actually met on an online dating site, Plenty of Fish :p. We messaged each other for about a month before we decided to meet-up in person. For me, messaging felt like we were best friends trying to become something more. We just instantly connected and would have in-depth conversations. Once we finally decided to meet in person, there was no awkwardness between us, just two best friends falling in love.”
Jeremy: “She pretty much covered exactly how I felt when we first met. All I can really say is that it just felt right. It was comfortable, a breath of fresh air after a sea of bad dates (pun intended). We are actually from the US and moved to Canada together after being together for only 6 months. Much of the decision for such a big step I think directly went back to how easy it was to love each other.”
What common interests keep you two together?
Shaunna: “Movies, video games and the desire to travel the world. More often than not, there is a movie we want to see so we are at the movie theater almost every weekend. If there’s no movie, then we stay home and play World of Warcraft or a board game (haha, yeah we are a bit geeky). And we try to take one big trip every year, preferably to a place we’ve never been.”
Jeremy: “It was fortunate that we had similar tastes to begin with which grew to mimic each other’s more over the years. Whether it is with games, movies, music, or our house we are typically on the same page and have the same likes and interests. I do have to say the one point of contention is our taste in books (I prefer my spy novels and Sci-Fi whereas she is more attuned to drama and thrillers- can’t win them all I guess).”
Share a memory with us!
Jeremy: “I still remember our first date. We went to the Denver Aquarium for dinner (awesome restaurant in front of a massive aquarium) and then walked around it just talking and having fun. It was easy- there was no awkwardness that you typically expect on a first date… It felt like we had done it a million times before. Since that date we have been together practically every day (in fact the days we have spent apart from each other over the last 6 years would total less than a couple weeks!). She really is my best friend.”
Shaunna: “I would have to second that! Aside from getting engaged, our first date is what truly stands out in our almost 6 years together. He was such a gentlemen and even seemed comfortable and confident while conversing with my dad while waiting for me to finish getting ready for our date.”
