Is there a way to predict amazing sunsets weeks into the future? If you, or someone you know, has this magical ability… please contact me immediately. Because if every evening was as wonderful as the evening Jessica and Jason had their Engagement Session done, I would be one happy photographer.
Jessica and Jason are an amazingly sweet couple whose wedding will be taking place this year. At the end of last summer, I was fortunate to have spent an evening getting to know them and photographing them. We walked around North Glenmore Park, as well as Ramsay in Calgary, which is a neighborhood I’ve been fortunate to call my home away from home (this is where my office is); I’d been walking around this neighborhood on my breaks and loving how much character the old buildings and houses have.
How did you two meet?
Jessica: “I met a friend for drinks at Molly Malone’s pub one night. When I walked into the pub I saw this handsome guy sitting at the table. It was my friend’s older brother, Jason, who I’ve never heard of before. Jason asked me questions about myself the whole evening and I felt like we were the only two people at the table. I thought he was very attentive and charming. He commented on how beautiful my eyes, smile and my hands were and I was completely smitten with him. When I went home that night, I couldn’t stop thinking about him and was hoping he would get a hold of me somehow.”
Jason: “I was at Molly Malone’s pub, having drinks with some friends on a Friday after work. I told my baby brother to come on down and have a couple of pints with us. He asked if his friend could come too and I said “of course”. He showed up first and about 20 minutes later Jessica walked in. When she walked up to our table she took my breath away. Her hair, her eyes, her smile were all incredible. We talked all evening and I had a really fun time talking to her that night.”
What are some of your common interests?
Jessica: “Where to start? I have shared so many of my own interests with Jason and we have made so many hobbies together. I believe one of the biggest things that we share is our love to travel. We have a huge interest in experiencing and learning about new cultures – everything from a country’s food, music, architecture and language can keep us entertained for hours. When we travel together, we wander the city streets and stop at anything that catches our eyes. When we’re not travelling and need some adventure, we spend our time watching world traveller and food blogger TV shows. It gives us an opportunity to expand our travel wish list. Another hobby we share together is snowboarding. Jason introduced me to this sport our first winter together. After tons of practise, falls, and patience from Jason, it’s now something fun and active that we do together and gives us something to look forward to every winter. We enjoy taking winter wonderland mini getaways to check out new mountain terrain and snow. Thank goodness Jason loves to eat food the way I do! We have a huge love of food and coffee, which is fantastic since both of our moms love to cook for us. We enjoy spending time trying new cuisines and sticking to old favourites. We’re always looking to check out new restaurants that pop up around Calgary. Jason has perfected the art of crafting amazing latte’s, and one of my favourite activities to do with him is to sit on our deck and enjoy delicious cappuccinos in the morning.”
Jason: “I thought she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever met. On our first date I was so nervous and I had never been nervous like that before. We ended up having a great time. I called her the very next day and asked her out again. I knew we had chemistry. We like doing so many different things together. We both love travelling and taking road trips. We’ve taken two amazing trips down the west coast, spent time in Toronto and Montreal, and got to visit Vancouver earlier this year. We are planning on spending time in Italy and Spain on our honeymoon. We can’t wait. We love snowboarding together too. It has made the winter fun for us, we both discovered the sport together and love checking out different mountains and terrain. We both love cooking and watching cooking shows, we love taking walks together along the reservoir, we enjoy checking out new restaurants and cool coffee shops. We love exploring different cities and just being together.”
What are some of your favorite memories together?
Jessica: “One of my favourite memories with Jason was our first vacation together down the West Coast. We drove from Calgary to Seattle, all the way down to San Francisco, his favourite city. It was my first vacation to the U.S. and I have so many amazing memories from that trip. We only booked hotels in the major cities we were stopping off at, and in between we had no plans. We stopped off at any place that looked interesting – cute towns with coffee shops, amazing scenic views, and white sandy beaches. Sometimes, there weren’t any towns to stop off at and we ended up driving for hours on end. But these were the times where we would end up just talking, and where I learned more about Jason. Thinking of our first trip together brings back so many happy memories, makes me excited to travel with Jason in the future, experience new places together, and just be together.”
Jason: “There are too many amazing events that have happened over the course of the last 3.5 years that I can’t pick just one. The more I got to know her the more I got to love her. Her sweet nature, her kind personality, her gentleness and caring all became evident to me after only a couple of weeks. We have the most amazing time no matter what we do together. When we travel we never make plans, we just get up and explore new places and new cities. I love that about her. I love that I’m able to be myself and she accepts me for who I am. She has a curious and beautiful soul and I love just being with around her. I have never met anyone like her in all my life and I am the luckiest man alive.”
