Katie and Adam’s wedding takes us to the mountains of Canmore, Alberta, to a gorgeous day that threatened rain (and it did – a little!) but didn’t soil the mood of this amazing group of people. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a goofier bridal party and I just LOVED them for being so out there (you can thank Adam’s side of the family [the Polaks] for that). Adam is definitely a wildcard and loves being silly, but as soon as he saw Katie walk down the aisle, he totally lost his composure in tears. Honestly, whenever the groom starts crying… it’s all over for me. Nope. I’m gone, too.
I know the word “epic” is highly overused but it’s really hard to find another word to describe the clouds that day. Seriously. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! We wrapped up the photo shoot part of the wedding day just before the skies opened up to head to the beautiful Cornerstone Theatre, which was set up amaaaaazingly for their reception.
Huge thanks to Glen of Glen Co Photography for the help on the day of!!
Describe your planning process!
Katie & Adam: “We love the mountains and Canmore seemed like the logical choice; we took our first trip there as a couple. Planning the wedding in 2 different cities wasn’t easy, but trips for Katie back from Hamilton and Adam doing a lot of the work, made the process relatively smooth.”
What was your favorite part of your big day?
Katie & Adam: “One aspect that stood out for both of us was the overwhelming sense of love that we felt from all of our guests; it was surreal to be at the head table, the centre of attention, and to have over 150 people sending their love our way. The dance portion of the night really stood out for us, especially all of our friends and family doing crazy things like table cloth jump rope, suspender limbo and shoulder dancing.”
Best advice for a couple planning their wedding?
Katie & Adam: “It’s much easier when both people do the heavy lifting (i.e.. planning, crafting and meeting), also you’ll save yourself a lot of time and stress if you just make a decision. Most of the things people stress about really don’t matter.”
Anything else?
Katie & Adam: “We took 15 minutes to ourselves in the middle of the evening, and it was very nice to just enjoy each others company and reflect on the day. It slowed things down and let us appreciate the entire day more.”
Katie: “Don’t let your fiancé get drunk until 5 am the night before the wedding.”
Adam: “Enjoy the night before your wedding, I like to think of it as a wedding weekend instead of a wedding day”.
