Rachael and Robert had one of the most amazingly relaxed weddings ever. I loved it so, so much. Their Calgary winter wedding was intimate and included an awesome venue: Big Rock Brewery. Most of all, I really enjoyed the non-traditional dress that Rachael chose for her big day. And the fact that the both of them wore matching grey Converse sneakers!
We were so lucky to be granted access to the brewing areas of Big Rock Brewery for some fantastic shots. Seriously, I couldn’t believe how visually stunning it was among all of the fermentation vessels and other fancy beer brewing equipment. It made for some really unique wedding photos for Rachael and Robert!
The entire day was so lovely, and both families were radiant. I know you could say that in regards to just about every wedding, but it was especially true here. I love looking back at these photos and seeing everyone’s smiling faces. One of my favorite parts of the day was an epic rap from two excellent guests that just had everyone in stitches!
Huge thank you to Rachael and Robert for your smiles, your kindness and your trust in me to document your big day. You two are awesome.
Q: Describe your planning process!
Rachael & Robert: We knew we wanted a small wedding as we both have HUGE families. We had been to Big Rock Brewery on a beer tour and had so much fun and thought it was a really neat place – that is what got us thinking of it in the first place. It was the perfect size and décore and had 15 different beer on tap – a no brainer! We’re both low key people so we wanted something simple and special and the brewery gave us just that!
Q: What was your favorite part of the day?
Rachael & Robert: I was so surprised by how excited other people got for us! From the bridal showers, to gifts, to emails and texts on the day of – people were so happy for us and that made it extra special.
Q: Greatest advice when planning a wedding?
Rachael & Robert: I would suggest having a ‘planning committee’. Mine consisted of my sisters and my mom. It was nice to run ideas by them and get advice and they were so supportive and helpful. It’s also important to be clear about what you want and stick to it.
Q: Any other words of wisdom?
Rachael & Robert: Another highlight from our big day was the cake!! Whippt did SUCH an amazing job! They were easy to work with, creative, and delicious!! I would suggest them to anyone looking for a cake on a special day. And of course, Anna!! Our photographer, planner, comforter, and so much more!! She was THE best money we spent on our big day and I happily hand her name out at every chance!
