This fun-loving bunch did exactly what I always suggest for an engagement session – a straight up date. Well, it’s everything exactly like a date except the only difference is some weirdo photographer taking photos of you the entire time.
We started the ‘date’ off at Mill Street Brewpub for some excellent beers, then headed down to the Stampede Grounds of the Calgary Stampede for the usual hijinks of ride-going, dole-whip eating, and proposing marriage with mini donuts (as you do). It was a seriously amazing time with an incredible couple and I’m so happy to be sharing the images from that day below!
The age old question: how did you two meet?
Andie: We met in med school in 2009. We became friends over the years and started to become flirty friends about 5 years ago. After a year of random hang outs Ryan finally asked me out on a real date! He accidentally double booked me with his brother so the three of us ended up going to a heavy metal show for our first real date! I always thought Ryan was out of my league. He was too smart and talented he was in a band and way too cool for me. Ryan thought I would never be interested in him because he was too nerdy lol. So it took us a long time to realize we mutually liked each other.
Describe the proposal! Were you surprised?
Andie: I was very surprised. We had been dating for 3 years but Ryan is very free spirited and not the type to settle down and be traditional. My family lovingly nagged him a lot! He had apparently been planning it for quite a while and kept me thinking I was going to eventually propose to him. We went out for what I thought was a casual date night at mill st. pub. It was our 3 year anniversary which had slipped my mind. Mill st was also the new venue built on top of the site of our first date at the heavy metal show.
What are some of the common interests that keep you together?
Andie: We have so much in common both being into music, cooking, philosophy, and sharing the same career as family doctors. We spend a lot of time learning about and debating controversial topics but also enjoy travelling, hiking, skiing and golfing.

Andie: Not long into our official dating, we went to Hawaii and went on a very intense hike (that Ryan definitely played down to be easy). It was really challenging for me but Ryan was so supportive and put up with a lot of complaining from me. I truly saw what a patient, kind and loving person he was. He continues to push me to try new things and be better every single day.
