Lindsay and Dave’s wedding was one of my favorite kinds. Short, sweet, and intimate. And at one of my favorite places, Heritage Park – you truly can’t go wrong! I arrived to get some photos of the couple’s first look, and some fun shots around the area, then they had a beautiful sunset ceremony with the reception at the Wainwright Hotel. Also, I just really loved Dave’s bright red bowtie – so cute!!
Describe your planning process!
Lindsay: Heritage Park is an important client of Dave’s and we were fortunate to get a booking at the Wainwright Hotel in less than 8 months’ notice. The venue dictated the style and it worked perfectly for our simplistic approach. An enjoyable time with all of our family and friends was the most important element of our wedding – aside from getting married of course. :) It was challenging to work through our priorities and to get everything done with full-time jobs and full lives but it was ultimately a great process and the day-of could not have gone more perfectly. We probably should have put our guest list onto paper before we did anything else, as that should have dictated our venue but we leaped on the Wainwright Hotel given the short timeline. We didn’t account for almost all of our guests attending!!! We were at max capacity. We also may not have invited children given the capacity…but it was fun to have them there. Selecting the right vendors was probably the biggest challenge. We wanted to work with people who got us, that we like, and were top-shelf in their respective role. Responsiveness and collaboration are huge in this process and we found amazing vendors (Anna Michalska Photography included).
What was your favorite part of your day?
Lindsay: Yes, saying “I do” was the best part of the day without a doubt. The photography session was such a bonding experience for Dave and I, and with our wedding party. I didn’t expect that but it really made the day just that much more amazing. Getting ready with my girls and Dave with his groomsmen was so special. Having them all in one room – my Mom, my niece, Sarah, Julia, Almeda – it was just awesome. Karen Malcolm made us look stunning, as did our hair stylist, Julie from Elite Hair. It went by so fast which I expected, but just how fast it went by, blew me away. Walking down the aisle to marry Dave is one of the happiest moments of my life. It’s the little experiences throughout the day that make it what it is. From our ‘first look’ to cutting the cake, hearing my maid of honour and Dave’s best man speeches. Seeing all of our people in one place was incredible. My Opa and Oma were able to attend, Dave’s mother, Liz and some very special friends from Australia. Oh, and the lighting during our ceremony was absolutely perfect.
What is your biggest advice to couples planning their wedding?
Lindsay: Figure out your priorities – set a budget – get your guest list onto paper – kids / no kids – then determine your venue size – find the right vendors for you and don’t settle until you do, just keep asking for recommendations until you find them… relax, have fun and enjoy the adventure! Savour the moments along the way – especially on your day. It’s your day.
