A sudden rain and cold snap didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits for Kristen and Devon’s amazing union at Pinebrook Golf Club! Thankfully, booking such venues gives you the option of an indoor location in case of nasty weather, and Pinebrook Gold and Country Club has one of the best indoor rooms to use as a ceremony backup location ever. Kristen and Devon’s amazing bridal party, including the couple themselves, powered through the chill for some awesome photos outside and I’m so thankful that they did. Just a few days later, we got total whiteout snow conditions so this wedding happened in the nick of time!
I really loved hearing all of the stories of the bride and groom during the speeches. How the bride and her father go to hockey games together every year and that’s a tradition they’ve been doing since forever. How the groom’s brother really looks up to the groom as a role model. The cute endearing names that family members have towards the bride and groom. As one of the only strangers in the party, I really get to know the family of both the bride and groom during these heartwarming speeches and feel way more at home as a result. I even had the mother of the bride give me a huge thank you and hug just before I left for the night and it was an amazing feeling to be so accepted during such an intimate and special day in their lives!
Kristen and Devon, thank you both for including me in your incredible wedding journey!
Describe your planning process!
K & D: Pinebrook Golf Course is a place we’ve often gone for brunches and celebrations with family, so it’s already a place we love, and it ‘s absolutely stunning in the fall. Fall is our favourite season, and when we got engaged, so we wanted to take advantage of the colors and scenery. Luckily our big day was two days before Calgary got record breaking snow fall, so everything turned out perfect!
What was your favorite moment of the big day?
K & D: Besides the ceremony, our favourite part of the day was the beer pong!! We had three tables put out after dinner and they were full all night. A highlight would definitely be Kristen and bridesmaid Keara beating her Dad :)
What is your best advice to couples planning their wedding?
K & D: Start early, use your helpers, and remember that it’s your day. As soon as we had an idea of when and where we wanted our wedding to be, we got all our big decisions done early. This way you have as many options as possible, can interview different vendors, and make sure you’re comfortable with your choices. Delegating tasks to friends and family was huge. As the big day gets closer, the little things add up quick, and having family and friends around to help was EVERYTHING. Never could’ve pulled this off without them. Lastly, it’s your day, so do what you want! We love playing beer pong with friends, and made sure we had tables out to play once the party started. Our ceremony was also personalized down to every detail which made it so meaningful and perfect.
