Chillest couple of the year award goes to… Cheryl and Kirstin! During their engagement session with me, they told me they wanted their wedding to be a fun party – a gathering of two sides of their family and friends, lots of which have never met before due to the couple’s history of living in many places in the past. And, it was exactly that. During the reception, the emcees (which were incredible, by the way) had asked the guests to stand up if they had never been to a gay wedding before. A surprising amount (to me) of people stood up, and it was as heavyhearted as it was uplifting to see all of these people from all walks of life come out to support this wonderful couple. Their ceremony was hosted at the incredibly beautiful Riverview Bed & Breakfast.
The reception was held at the gorgeous Wild Rose Brewery. As mentioned earlier, the emcees were absolutely amazing. Entertainment included multiple costume changes, beautifully worded speeches, and even a cardboard cutout of a canoe that they rowed in between tables. However, hands down, the best part of the day was the way that the “big surprise” for the couple was presented. Cheryl and Kirstin have wanted a canoe for quite some time, so towards the end of the night, they were presented with gifts that would pair well with their future canoe – such as life vests. While the couple opted not to do a traditional cake, their guests surprised Cheryl and Kirstin with a cake anyway and decided it would be most fitting for this outdoorsy couple to do the cake cutting outside. The hangar doors slowly opened to reveal a cake… positioned on top of the most incredible cedar wood canoe I’ve ever seen. The couple absolutely lost it – Cheryl in particular, and they were overcome with joy.
It was a wedding full of love and warmth, and I can’t thank Cheryl and Kirstin enough for their kind words of thanks during their speeches. They even got me a surprise gift of an illustrated book about cats in space – all because they remembered the space cat print shoes I wore during our engagement session. Their incredible thoughtfulness and trust in me truly made this wedding very special in my books. Thank you both so much, Cheryl and Kirstin!
